history of the waffle iron

Most good stories begin and end with an iconic waffle iron. Our story begins somewhere in the middle.

The concept of Grand-Mère began somewhere in the process of making waffles on my grandmother’s two-prong waffle iron.  Maybe it was the smell resonating memories of my family, the simplicity and strength of the machine itself, or the seasoned cast iron withstanding the test of time.  Perhaps it was the thought of my grandmother’s handwriting on her recipe cards.  It was probably a collective idea, at a moment when I was relishing the past, acknowledging the present, and searching for a way to continue the tradition for our children. So, after 22 years as a nurse, I thought it was time to write a new recipe.

Grand-Mère Recipe as follows:

Grand-Mère begins with iconic goods from local and international communities of inventors, makers, and artisans.  The emphasis is on appreciating the history of a company, resiliency to fads, and focusing on the simplicity of design and function.

The curation of our collection seeks inspiration from quality, sustainably sourced, eco-friendly, hand-made, and fair-trade products.  Your legacy is timeless. Our hope is to offer a thoughtful selection of housewares and lifestyle goods to continue creating new experiences for future generations.

In the words of our children, Grand-Mère ends with knowing where you come from, bringing honor to your ancestors, and following cultural traditions.  Our Grand-Mère family values craftsmanship and slowing down consumption by promoting the circulation of goods so they may be inherited once again.

In essence, Grand-Mère’s philosophy is to create a connection to heritage through iconic and curated goods to be fully enjoyed and experienced, and finally passed down to our future generations.

And from the beginning and middle of our story, we invite you to join our community, welcoming you with a friendly smile, a spot of tea, and a place to continue your family story. We invite you to experience our recipe. We begin with donating one percent of your purchase to 1% for the Planet; one way for us to give back directly to environmental partners to create a healthier planet.

Now it's time to write your own recipe

Falcon enamelware

Maybe it begins right after graduating from T.V. dinners after college and right before preparing your first meal using Falcon Enamelware prep bowls.

Snow Peak

Perhaps, it’s the experience of sharing the passion for enjoying the outdoors with your family with a meal cooked on the lifetime-guaranteed Snow Peak Takibi Fire and Grill.

High Camp Flasks

Or sharing a drink poured from the High Camp Flask with your friends after an epic ski session at your favorite mountain.

the recipe ends with the experience you take with you.
